Mon Chat Pitre is the name of the library inaugurated in Provence where you can read a good book in the company of those saved from the shelters

What's more relaxing than a good read while petting a cat (rescued from an animal shelter)? In the Mon Chat Pitre bookshop, which has just opened in Provence, it is possible to do so

In France, exactly in Aix-en-Provence, a bookshop was inaugurated which in a short time has become a very popular destination for cat lovers. Yes, among the shelves there are not only many books, but also several felines looking for cuddles. The library, which takes the name of Mon Chat Pitre, houses six wonderful cats, adopted by animal shelters.

The idea of opening this place came to two television journalists Solène Chavanne and Jean-Philippe Doux, passionate about reading, but above all eager to offer shelter to stray or abandoned cats. Unfortunately, France holds the sad European record in the abandonment of pets and in the summer the situation worsens.

In the Mon Chat Pitre bookshop you can breathe a calm and pleasant atmosphere and you will come across several titles dedicated to felines.

“Sometimes there are cats running around, but otherwise it's really a very quiet place,” explains Jean-Philippe. The cats are now used to playing and purring with those who enter the library.

It often happens that someone asks to adopt one of the cats living in the shelves, but the two journalists urge customers to adopt others from the shelters.

“The cats we have are not to be adopted, on the other hand they are ambassadors. If you fall in love with these, it will be inevitable to fall in love with one of the thousands of cats hosted by the shelters who are just waiting to be adopted, explains Jean-Philippe.
