Robert Bezeau, founder of the project, is helping to defend the lush environment of the island of Colon, in the Bocas del Toro archipelago, and to recover large quantities of materials accumulated in the landfills local.
The structure of each house will be made up of steel and plastic bottles which will then be covered with a concrete mix. There first home, consisting of two rooms, allowed to recycle well 20 thousand bottles, offering environmental advantages that should not be underestimated, especially from the point of view of temperature.
In fact, the internal rooms of the house, thanks to the insulation guaranteed by the plastic bottles, are much cooler than the outside. Each house will be equipped with water and electricity systems and will be delivered with doors and windows already installed.
According to Bezeau, the reuse of materials such as plastic bottles allows for build houses in no time and save a lot compared to traditional materials used locally. The village will be built in three phases and will include a shared garden, green areas, a park and places suitable for yoga and outdoor activities.
For the islands of Boca del Toro, plastic recycling represents a great challenge, given that the problem of accumulated and unmanaged waste it is very serious. Hence the idea of reusing plastic bottles as insulation for housing. Everything starts from a green approach with the hope that those who will live in these houses will think first of all about respecting the environment.
