In London, a Victorian ex-toilet cafe

Who would want to enjoy a delicious sandwich or a good cup of coffee in the bathroom? Probably none. But for two English people, Pete Tomlinson and Ben Russell, this was such a great idea that they decided to open a very original café right inside a public toilet in London. But not just any one: it is, in fact, an ancient bathroom dating back to the Victorian era.

Who would like to enjoy a delicious sandwich or a good cup of coffee in the bathroom? Probably none. But for two Englishmen, Pete Tomlinson and Ben Russell, this was such a great idea that they decided to open a very original coffee shop right inside a London public restroom. But not just any one: it is, in fact, an ancient bathroom dating back to the Victorian era.

As soon as they saw the "rent" sign for the underground toilet, the two entrepreneurs they picked up immediately the opportunity to create something new on the coffee scene of the capital of the United Kingdom. Subsequently, they spent months and months designing and restoring the place, but, instead of erasing all the memories of its previous use, they chose to highlight it, keeping the original urinals from 1890 Doulton & Co. as furniture.

What came out of it? A brand new venue that has recovered old unused spaces giving them a new life. They called it The Attendant and it is found in Foley Street. Inside, the urinals are exposed in plain sight, used as glittering dividers. Even if underground, the very original coffee is not difficult to find, thanks to his original wrought iron entrance, which was used to signal to passers-by that they could find relief here in case of "need".

Now, however, Londoners, both male and female, will be able to enjoy carefully selected high quality food and drink here, while chatting with friends… in the urinals. Maybe it's against strict English etiquette, but, Ladies and Gentlemen, at the Attendent the rules have changed.
