In Campania the first '118 veterinary': the emergency room for 'ownerless' animals opens in January

In Campania from January XNUMXst a toll-free number will come into operation to help dogs, cats or other animals in difficulty. It also fights against strays.

SOS animals: in Campania from January 118st, a toll-free number will come into operation to help dogs, cats or other animals in difficulty. Wounded, abandoned or in search of any help, it will be a real "1 veterinary", who will report to the ASL of Naples XNUMX, to finally give a concrete hand even in the fight against stray dogs.

This is what is included in the provisions approved by the Campania Region and contained in law number 3 of last April ("Provisions aimed at promoting and protecting the respect and welfare of pets and preventing stray animals"), which will soon come to life and which they promote and regulate “every useful initiative and service to promote respect and recognition of animal rights […]” and, moreover, “it encourages the welcome and good keeping of pets in the owners' families”.

In general, the new law provides:

    • first aid and medical and surgical assistance for unmanned animals
    • a regional data bank of pets
    • an Animal Cancer Registry (RTA) and obliges the registration of all tumors diagnosed in animals in the Campania Region
    • a regional toll-free number (so-called 118 veterinary) to report the presence of injured stray dogs and injured free cats on the regional territory

What does it mean? That finally even in Campania the rights of animals, affection, stray or cared for, are fully recognized and that already from the first days of 2020 our four-legged friends in danger will be immediately treated by veterinarians and restored to health. In fact, the toll-free number will put you in contact with the Veterinary First Aid.

How the veterinary toll-free number will work

If you happen to see an injured animal on the street, it is essential to know who to contact and how within a few minutes. The new toll-free number will be used for this in the coming months.

In general, assistance can be requested for first aid and medical and surgical assistance for animals without an owner, as stated in the provisions:

"A regional toll-free number is set up at the CRIUV (Wild Animal Recovery Center) to report the presence of stray dogs injured e injured free cats on the regional territory. The information received at the toll-free number is sent to the veterinarian on call of the competent public veterinary service for the area, which activates the procedures provided for by this law ".

When a dog is identified on the street, before entering the kennel or entrusted to an adoptive family, it will then be treated by the ASL for any pathologies or needs.

Finally, among the other novelties of the Law, there is also a regional archive of animals, with the aim of having a more capillary control over them and their owners, in order to prevent even straying; compulsory courses for owners of dangerous animals and also the cancer registry for animals.

Today we presented a regional law that aims at the protection and respect and welfare of pets ...
