Stop using gas blowers and lawn mowers in California. The bill banning the use of these machines by 2024 has been signed

California bans the use of leaf blowers and gas lawn mowers. California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill last Saturday that he will phase out, by 2024, these commonly used gardening tools.

And the new measure was introduced for a just cause: to put a stop to pollution. In fact, gas-powered leaf vacuums in particular produce high levels of air pollutants, including nitrogen oxides (NOx), reactive organic gases (ROG) and particulate matter (PM).

Too polluting gas gardening machinery

According to the California Air Resources Board, the use of a gas blower for about an hour produces the same amount of emissions produced during a trip from Los Angeles in Denver. Newsom's signing comes one year after the executive order in California to phase out the sale of all gas vehicles by 2035. Currently California is the only US state authorized to independently establish its own air pollution regulations .

The new bill has been enthusiastically welcomed by environmental groups and other organizations in the country, including the American Lung Association in California, the Sierra Club and the Union of Concerned Scientists, who hope for a more sustainable future.

However, there was no shortage of controversy from both Republicans and Democrats, as well as from the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute, who pointed out that the new measure will put gardeners and those living in rural areas in difficulty. The main problem is the costs. The cost of an electric lawn mower is in fact almost double that of a gas model.

Discounts for the purchase of electrical machinery

In addition, the Californian government has formally asked the California Air Resources Board to identify and make available financing for commercial concessions to be used for the purchase of electrical equipment.

Currently, there are zero emission equivalents for all SORE equipment regulated by the State Air Resources Board. The battery technology required for commercial-grade zero-emission equipment is available and many users, both commercial and individual, have already begun to switch to zero-emission equipment.
