Do you use an aluminum bottle? Here are the cleaning products to avoid absolutely in order not to damage it and how to wash it correctly

In recent years, aluminum water bottles have become more and more popular. In addition to representing an eco-sustainable alternative to polluting plastic bottles, they are practical, light and are able to maintain the heat or cold of drinks for several hours. Those who use an aluminum bottle, however, should know how to wash it in the most correct way. If on the one hand, in fact, rinsing it with a little hot water is not enough to remove germs and bad smells, on the other hand some products (even natural ones) can ruin it. Let's find out which ones and how to clean it correctly.

Aluminum bottle: the products to avoid absolutely

If you have an aluminum bottle, it is better to know which products to avoid absolutely in order not to damage it. Among the remedies (apparently harmless) most not recommended of all are:

  • Sodium bicarbonate: extremely versatile in the kitchen and beyond, it should never be used for cleaning aluminum water bottles or for cleaning other pots and cutlery made from this material. It is, in fact, a totally alkaline substance that would react with aluminum, causing it to lose its brilliance. It would, therefore, make the bottle more opaque and blackened. Read also:
  • Lemon juice: even lemon juice is not recommended at all for cleaning aluminum bottles. Despite having a highly disinfectant power, it is not suitable as it is acidic.
  • Vinegar: even vinegar is not suitable for cleaning for this type of bottle. As with lemon, its acid base would corrode the aluminum.

How to properly wash the aluminum bottle

So what is the best method to sanitize the bottle in the best possible way, without damaging the aluminum? There is no need to purchase a specific cleaning product. Just use a little dish detergent, preferably delicate and ecological. It is preferable to wash the bottle by hand following these steps:

  1. Fill the bottle halfway with hot water and a drop of dish soap
  2. Close the bottle cap and shake vigorously for a few seconds. For a deeper cleaning, you can use a bottle and bottle brush to reach the bottom and inner walls more easily.
  3. Rinse several times to remove all traces of detergent
  4. Don't forget to wash the cap and thread as well
  5. Let the bottle dry. It is better to turn it upside down to drain the water better

If, on the other hand, you choose to wash your aluminum bottle in the washing machine, remember to remove the gasket from the cap to prevent it from being damaged during washing.
