Many people, regardless of age, experience back pain and inflammation of the sciatic nerve at certain times in their lives. However, there is a simple object that can help when needed: one tennis ball!

In the second case, however, the pain originates from the nerve that extends from the lower back along the back of the legs. When we experience back pain or sciatic nerve pain, we often resort to over-the-counter medications or ointments with an anti-inflammatory effect, forgetting that the most important thing is to search for the cause that triggered the problem (which can only be done with help of a professional).

For symptomatic purposes, if we want to avoid drugs or other remedies, we can use a simple trick which you can experience comfortably at home and which consists in using a tennis ball to put pressure on the painful points.

This remedy helps relieve sciatica pain faster. But how does it work? The tennis ball combines the benefits of massage, acupressure and reflexology and is able to relieve muscle tension and soothe sore muscles.

Simply put the tennis ball on the affected area and then apply some pressure. In this way, muscle tension and stiffness are relieved and consequently the pain slowly tends to disappear. This method also improves mobility and blood circulation.

If it is sciatic pain, the ball is placed on the piriformis muscle which is very close to the sciatic nerve.

When using this remedy for the first time the pain may initially be intense but it is normal, slowly breathing slowly will fade away. It is basically the same feeling you get when a professional gives you a shoulder massage. At first you suffer but then you feel the benefits.

Here's how:

  • Lie down and locate the sore spot in your buttocks or back
  • Place the tennis ball in that spot
  • Relax and slowly move the ball with your body
  • Press the ball on your chosen spot for 30-60 seconds or until the pain begins to subside. You can then continue on another sore point.
  • The exercise should be done for 5-10 minutes.

Have you ever tried the tennis ball method for back pain?
