THEdryer it can be a very useful appliance - especially in the winter season or when it rains, and drying clothes in the air seems an impossible task. However, this is a "convenience" that can result in very high energy bills (particularly during this period), if not used wisely.

If we have chosen to buy a dryer, make sure to carefully read theenergy label at the time of purchase: all appliances, in fact, are classified on a scale that goes from A to E based on their energy efficiency - where A represents the maximum degree of efficiency (and therefore savings) and E the minimum degree. Investing in an energy-efficient dryer, in addition to polluting less, will make us consume less energy and save a lot of money on our bills. If, on the other hand, we already have a dryer at home but want to start using it more wisely, we can put into practice some useful "tricks":

    • Make good use of the washing machine's spin cycle. Spinning the clothes as much as possible in the washing machine will allow them to be wrung out better and to eliminate a large part of the water retained - in this way drying will be easier and faster.
    • Only start the dryer with full load (and no further). Loading it too little, inserting a few cloths, represents a useless waste of energy, but also overloading the basket is not a wise choice: the drying resulting from an overflowing basket will not be perfect, and the machine will have to "struggle" more than normal , thus consuming more energy.
    • Choose the suitable program. Group the laundry to be dried by type and fabric and use the program that best suits what we have inserted in the drum: in this way you will avoid drying cycles that are too long and expensive in terms of energy. Attention, in particular, to the anti-crease function, which many dryers have: it can be really expensive in terms of energy consumption, so better to do without it as much as possible.
    • Do maintenance. In order for the dryer to work at its best, it must be taken care of and well maintained: malfunctions and anomalies are often hidden behind the waste of energy. This is why it is important to periodically empty the condensate collection tray and clean the filter (just take it out of its drawer and clean it under running water). The residues of dirt and the fluff deriving from the clothes placed to dry represent an obstacle to the functioning of the machine that can lead to consume more energy.
