Busier cities, less living space in homes. An inseparable pair now. The larger the urban centers, the smaller the size of the apartments. And if of space-saving solutions there are now many, a apartment able to change according to the needs of those who live there. An apparently very small space instead of being divided into various rooms can instead change if necessary, with a click.

Just press a button for transform the living room into a bedroom or bathroom. A new design that aims to make life easier in a very small space. The project Hyperbody, conceived by a group of students from Delft University of Technology, in the Netherlands, was partly inspired by a simple fact: a single person living in a studio apartment can only occupy one space at a time. If we're in the kitchen, we can't be in the bathroom, and if we're in bed, the living room is empty. So what's the point of having separate rooms?

By condensing everything into one area, the designers found that they could provide around 100 square meters of living space in a half-sized apartment. A sort of modular structure that can be rearranged by pressing a button.

How? The The walls are flexible and glide along the grooves created in the floor, powered by an engine beneath it. The walls can also be moved manually to create another room. Furthermore, by flexing, they are transformed into furniture, tables and chairs. Each wall is made of polypropylene, a material flexible enough to bend without being damaged, but also strong enough to support someone sitting or lying on it.

“As with a Swiss army knife, only the desired shapes come out while the others remain in the existing walls. Therefore, a high variety of spatial configurations is possible, creating only the spaces that are needed at a given moment " explains the team of Hyperbody. “The bedrooms are not needed during the day and can be transformed into a workspace or a large living room. The pop-up apartment allows you to live in a continuous change of space, in real time, tailored to the user's wishes ".

The designers created both a digital model and a full-scale prototype of the apartment after four months of research.
