He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

His image is considered the most beautiful in the world. The subject of the photo is an ethereal mother humpback whale sleeping next to her baby just 2 weeks old. The touching photograph won the special prize of the HIPA photo contest, which this year had water as the theme.

The winners were announced on June 7 and the $ 120.000 Grand Prix went to Australia's Jasmine Carey. She took the photo while she was underwater in the Kingdom of Tonga, an island state of Polynesia located in the South Pacific.

“I grabbed my 5D Mark IV camera, which is encased in a waterproof case and slipped from a small tour boat into the waters of the Vavaʻu Islands in Tonga,” the photographer told The Guardian.

After spotting small bubbles breaking on the surface of the water every 4 minutes, the woman and a group of divers realized that there were special guests waiting for her under the sea. Bad weather and rain didn't stop her, so she dived and into the muffled silence of the deep sea, with raindrops ticking on the surface, Jasmine spotted the couple: a large female humpback whale and her baby. sleeping. Shortly thereafter a ray of light crossed the clouds and the waters to kiss mother and cub, called Zai. Looking at her smooth, velvety skin and her candid white belly, one can guess that she is no more than two weeks old.

So grateful to The Kingdom of Tonga and especially Vava’u, for having the commitment towards a sustainable whale…

“She looked so vulnerable, but she was relaxed. So in the balance. So nourished, cushioned and strengthened by the water that embraced her and will embrace her forever ”she said.

Careful not to wake his mother, little Zai also curled up, gently rubbing himself on her belly.
