Let's see together some small tricks to use the radiators without increasing the costs of the energy bill at the end of the month

The bad weather has now arrived and, with it, also a sharp drop in temperatures that forces us to turn on the radiators in our apartments. Heaters undoubtedly represent a convenience of vital importance in these cold and rainy days, but they contribute to domestic energy consumption: reckless use, therefore, can turn into a very high bill to be paid at the end of the month. However, we can adopt a few small tricks to prevent the reassuring warmth of the radiator from having a bitter aftertaste.

    • Turn on the radiators only if necessary. It seems obvious and trivial, but it is good to reiterate it: before turning the thermostat knob, let's ask ourselves if we really need the heating or if we can block the cold by simply closing the windows or wearing an extra sweater. We often turn on the radiators out of habit, even if it may not be that cold.
    • Plan the shutdown of the radiators. If our thermostat allows it, we can activate an automatic shutdown timer of the system, in order to decide in advance the time of use of the radiators to avoid unnecessary waste of energy. Or, we can set an alarm (even on our mobile) to remind us that it's time to turn off!
    • Free the heaters. Everything that is in front of the radiator is an impediment to the diffusion of heat in the apartment: away then heavy curtains, clothes left to dry (HERE some tricks to dry clothes at home when it rains outside without affecting our health) and radiator covers - only in this way will we be able to make the most of the power of our radiators.
    • Ventilate your home (but wisely). It is a good idea, even in cold weather, to open windows and balconies and let in fresh air from outside, to avoid the proliferation of bacteria in the house and avert the risk of disease. However, let's not do this when we have the heaters on - otherwise all the heat will end up outside the window. Furthermore, it is better to take advantage of the hottest hours of the day - that is, the central ones - to allow the air exchange in the apartment: in this way too much cold air will not enter which will lower the internal temperature, forcing us to turn on the radiators.
    • Watch out for the temperature. Another thing that is often overlooked is the temperature set on the thermostat: even a single degree less can result in energy (and economic) savings of up to 6%, with a perception that is almost insignificant for us. The ideal temperature for our well-being should be 21 ° C: in this way we will stay warm in the house, but we will avoid too much thermal shock when we go outside. If our system allows it, it is a good idea to adjust the temperature of each individual radiator based on its position in the apartment: for example, we can keep the radiators located in the corridor or in the rooms that we use less at a lower temperature, and take advantage of mostly those located in rooms where we are most present.
    • Maintenance is important. In addition to being imposed by law (we remind you that, for those who do not carry out maintenance on their system, there is a fine starting from 500 euros, as described in the Presidential Decree 74/2013), the maintenance of the boiler and the heating system is also important for the proper functioning of the radiators. During the summer, in fact, air bubbles could form in the pipes that prevent the heaters from functioning correctly: a quick check before starting to use the heaters again (done with the help of an expert) will allow us to get the most out of the our plant.
