Each of us certainly has a a pair of jeans from which you would never want to part and which has been preserved for years in the hope that that particular model will return to fashion. There are those who rightly try to reuse denim, an ultra-resistant fabric, to give life to new objects, such as bags or accessories. However, it can be transformed into the raw material for a real form ofcontemporary art.

British artist Ian Berry has found an original way to prevent the old jeans are thrown away by those who no longer wish to wear them. Ian takes care of recovering them and using the fabric as if it were one canvas on which to draw or paint, with the help of some simple tools, such as scissors, and some materials, such as glue. In this way the artist manages to give life to real ones portraits and urban landscapes faithfully reproduced on the fabric obtained from old jeans.

Ian Berry, who now lives in Sweden, has already been the protagonist with his works, which are part of a project called "Denimu", by numerous exhibitions who hosted it during 2011 and 2012 in various places around the world, including Portugal, Sweden, England and different locations in the United States. Next September his works can be admired at the Galaria Dos Prazeres in Calheta (Madeira, Portugal).

The artist's activity began five years ago, a period during which he managed to collect such a large amount of used jeans that he could fill seven wardrobes, securing almost unlimited material for his next jobs. Ian has decided to abandon his job in advertising to devote himself completely to art and the recovery of materials used for the realization of his works. It was a courageous choice that was premaita in a short time. His creations, thanks to international exhibitions, have been purchased from private collectors and public galleries around the world.

The success of the works created by Ian lies in theirs complete originality and uniqueness. Each work is practically unrepeatable and not replicable, an aspect that contributes to increasing the value of each of them. And to think that for the artist the idea of using the denim of jeans used for the creation of works of art came when his mother, seven years ago, called him to remind him of tidy up your room. He therefore began to collect his own old jeans and, after just over a year, his first artistic works were born. An example to imitate!
