He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

Be gods budding gardeners or experts fromcreative grafting, it does not matter, with a few small suggestions everyone can embark on their own path in the world of gardening. The important thing is to be motivated and of course to start… getting your hands dirty. Maybe you've always wanted grow your own salad or vegetables, or perhaps you are looking to undertake a more responsible and sustainable path that will also save you a few euros, or you simply want to find an activity that makes you stay outdoors, perhaps to share with your family.

Well, for your new urban garden, you just have to arm yourself with a good dose of patience, some tools, and you are ready to start.

    • Look for your trusted nursery

Look for a nursery "in the area", perhaps family-run, which unlike many large distribution centers, in addition to offering you healthy plants, will offer you a personalized service and in which you will certainly find staff who are always willing to answer your questions.

    • Be prepared to lose your lawn

A beautiful English lawn is certainly pleasant to see and is a lovely place to spend a few hours in the sun and maybe play with your dog, but converting it into a beautiful vegetable garden is even better. We can also embellish it with some fruit trees which in addition to having a certain aesthetic impact will know how to repay us for the effort made.

    • Consider the idea of a raised garden

Having a vegetable garden is certainly not a trivial commitment e work the land, even a small portion, requires dedication and a lot of effort. Till the soil and work it before the sowing being bent over for a long time is hard work for all those who have some minor back problems and can make it impossible for elderly or disabled people.

For this reason we advise you to create a small raised vegetable garden compared to the ground level. This will save your back and make cleaning and maintaining your plants easier. You can make yours raised vegetable garden using a wooden, stone or brick frame according to your tastes or availability, which will then be filled with soil / organic compost. To best grow greens and vegetables we recommend that you create one substrate thickness of at least 30 cm.

    • Getting started right to be half the battle

For your new organic garden, start by growing 100% organic seeds or plants. This will give you the guarantee that you are eating healthy, unprocessed products. Also, use the practice of "green manure". That is, get in the habit of cultivate a secondary crop which will help to improve the fertilization of the soil in a natural way. For example, legumes enrich the soil with nitrogen as does the cultivation of clover.

    • Test your terrain

Test your soil to see if it is of low quality or needs some additions, or perhaps contains pollutants that are harmful to your crops and health. The test results will tell you what the Substrate pH, the percentage of organic matter contained in it and any missing nutrients to be integrated.

    • If the neighbor's grass is always the greenest

If you notice that the neighbors have a perfect lawn, with all the grass stalks of the same length, and an intense emerald green color, there are two things: either they have a Guinness World Record green thumb or maybe they use chemicals to keep it "in shape". Several pesticides used to perfect turf are classified as highly toxic and may contain carcinogens. So if you think that these substances can somehow also contaminate your garden, run to the kitchen and after having prepared a nice cake or biscuits go to your neighbors and ask what they use to have such a soft and velvety lawn.

    • Use nature to control parasites

Pesticides, aggressive, toxic and harmful not only for parasites but also for your crops and your health, are certainly not suitable for your new organic garden: rather use what nature offers you. Did you know that the crops of calendule do they attract "good" insects such as ladybugs or chrysopes capable of fighting aphids that damage your plants? Or that some substances contained in garlic are capable of fighting nematode worms that parasitize and destroy crops? In fact, many gardeners cultivategarlic right in the vicinity of their beloved rose gardens.

    • Don't forget the origins

When choosing seeds or plants to grow in your organic garden, don't forget the place where you live. Always choose plants that are typical of your country and that you know are suitable for the climate. This will allow you to have better results in the face of a water saving and maintenance.

    • Don't be afraid to ask for advice

Read up as much as possible, the web today offers a lot of information, you just need to know how to look for it. If this is not enough and many doubts are gripping you, do not hesitate to ask those who are more experienced than you. Maybe from your trusted nurseryman, or your neighbors (those with the emerald green lawn mentioned above) or in one of the many gardening forums that are on the net.

    • Potted it is beautiful

If like me you don't have a nice garden to cultivate but you only have one balconette, do not despair. As we have seen several times, even a small terrace can give great results. Many greens and vegetables can also be grown in pots and have the advantage that if bad weather arrives you can easily move them indoors, or if you go on a trip you can take them with you. Maybe the nutrients will not be the same as those of the plants that grow in a beautiful garden but they will surely give color and scent to your terrace.

    • Keep and manage your water better

Use containers of collection for rainwater, placing them near the gutter pipes, in order to create a water reserve to be used for watering operations. Use drip irrigation systems that generally consume less than traditional diffusers. Try to water early in the morning when the temperature is cooler and there is less evaporation. Watering in the evening or at night is not recommended as the plants can remain humid and stagnant water can favor the formation of molds or fungi.

    • Be critical with technology

Technology today also comes to the aid of gardening and agriculture. In the large specialized centers and on the sites present on the net it is possible to find everything: mini hydroponic greenhouses, growth kits, mercury vapor lighting systems and so on and so forth. But don't forget about sustainability! Carefully evaluate the costs of these appliances, theirs energy efficiency, ease of use and whether they can really be beneficial to you.

    • Having fun is important

With fun, even fatigue will be lighter. We try to involve family members, especially children, in our organic garden project. Maybe by growing some easy and colorful plants to which they can dedicate their care.

    • If things go wrong, remember the tomatoes

As we have already highlighted, cultivate a vegetable garden or a garden, requires constant effort and sacrifice. And often the results struggle to get to the point where we need an injection of optimism. This is where tomatoes come into play. Regardless of what you have chosen to grow, do not forget to leave a place, preferably near the door of the house, for a couple of pcherry tomatoes plants. This vegetable needs very little care: six hours of sun and a little more water if it starts to wilt. So when something goes wrong in your garden and the plants find it difficult to bear fruit or grow correctly, returning home you can feast your eyes, and above all the spirit, with your cherry tomatoes.

I just have to wish "good growth" to everyone.
