How to recycle old zippers: flower-shaped rings and brooches

The old hinges can be used to make delicious flowers that lend themselves to become rings and original brooches.

How are flowers made? Ce lo spiega DIY Gustamontón in his YouTube video.

  • Divide the zipper in half, cut 6 pieces of zipper 6 cm long and 1 piece 35 cm long with scissors. Pass the needle through the first piece as you see in the video, then curl it and sew the base of the petal. Proceed in the same way with the other 6 cm pieces, then join them with a needle and thread and join the first petal with the last.
  • Now take the 35 cm long piece and wrap it around itself with the help of a needle and thread, as the video explains.
  • Cut out a circle of felt 5,5 cm in diameter, fold it roughly in half and make two cuts with scissors near the ends, then insert a safety pin and cover the back with a piece of felt of the same color, which you can apply with hot glue.
  • Smear the back of the circle with more hot glue and apply the flower you made initially, then add the central part of the flower made with the longest piece of zipper.

The flower thus created lends itself to act as a brooch, but by eliminating the safety pin you can also use it to create a ring.

How to recycle old zippers: Christmas decorations

By depriving it of the ribbon, the hinge lends itself to the creation of nice Christmas decorations.

Cut out hearts, circles or stars from a piece of felt, apply a gold zipper on the edge (you can paint it with the spray) with the help of hot glue and that's it.

Mushrooms make a lot of Christmas! Make them with felt and corks, adding the zipper as in the photo.

How to recycle old zippers: embroidered checks

Embroider some fabric circles and add the zipper on the edge, using the hot glue. You can use them as brooches or as decorative elements for the home.

With felt you can give life to three-dimensional squares by adding the hinge on the edge as if it were a frame.
