Producing energy from chicken droppings? The Green Energy Solution experiment seems to have a future
He is about to end up run over, his mother saves himWe had already talked about companies that transform organic waste from agriculture but also frombiological activity of animals in energy and heating but a few hours ago the news of a sensational discovery made by a company in Nevada, the Green Energy Solution, who found a way to treat chicken droppings to produce clean burning gas.
Up to now chicken droppings had been used as organic fertilizer or to produce electricity through combustion, a process which, as we all know, is very polluting. There Green Energy Solution launched a project in 2007 to study methodologies for the treatment of bird droppings in order to transform them into gas to be used as a source of renewable energy and finally, after about two years, the project is put into practice.
The waste materials of the hens are treated with special enzymes able to attack and separate organic products obtaining methane which, we recall, is a gas that reduces the emission of by about half pollutants e carbon dioxide compared to heavier molecule fossil fuels.
The company, which has announced that it will be able to start production by the end of 2010, could already open similar plants in Europe in the next two years.
The project, which benefited from state grants for the research of renewable sources, has started a process that, although it is still too high in terms of costs, can in the future be applied to any type of organic waste to obtain biogas and thus reducing pollution.
