How to produce drinking water from the sea using solar energy

Solar powered floating cucumbers. The concept, if implemented, will serve to make the sea water drinkable

Is it possible to convert seawater into drinking water? Current methods in circulation for transform salt water into fresh water they don't come with great energy efficiency, and often depends on how they work non-renewable sources. But all is not lost. The idea has the shape of a big one cucumber, a sort of artificial reefs, entirely powered by solar energy.

The project, still only one concept, was made by Phil Pauley who has seen fit to use the power of the sun for transform seawater into drinking water, also useful during emergencies such as rescue operations or in situations of scarce water availability for small coastal communities.

Through humidification and exploiting evaporation, the system also allows condensation and subsequent removal of the sale contained in sea water.

This humidification effect of the environment therefore replicates the normal water cycle but integrates it, with a process of reverse osmosis, separation from other substances, including salt. The use of advanced self-cleaning systems also reduce its maintenance. In this way, the need to transport water is also eliminated, reducing water emissions related to it.

However, estimates regarding the amount of water that can be desalinated have not yet been provided. However, the project provides an idea of how to carry out the process in a sustainable way, using the energy produced by the Sun.

Another interesting fact, these units are mobile, so they can be easily transported as needed.
