Warnings

The use of caustic soda, which can be purchased in hardware stores, plumbing, do-it-yourself or some supermarkets, is necessary for the saponification process to take place. In the final soap there will be no trace of soda and it will not it will not be polluting at all. Always pour soda into the water e NEVER vice versa. If you are making soap for the first time, it will be easier for you to work with half the doses of the ingredients listed here. Calculate that already in half the doses you will need it use a loaf pan or several molds.

Method

1) Filter the frying oil to eliminate impurities. Carefully weigh the oil, soda and water on the scale. To weigh the soda, as a precaution, retrieve a plastic cup which you can then throw away.

2) Pour the weighed water into the Pyrex glass baker, after having placed it in the sink or in a basin, and add the soda little by little, stirring slowly with a glass rod. The soda will quickly begin to give off heat. In the meantime, place the oil on the stove after pouring it into a saucepan and heat it over low heat.

3) Measure the oil temperature and turn off the heat when it reaches a value between 40 and 45 degrees. The same value will have to be touched by the soda solution, the temperature of which can be lowered more quickly by pouring cold water into your sink or basin.

4) When the two liquids are at the same temperature, pour the soda solution into the pan with the oil and operate the immersion blender, with which to mix the liquids until you get a mixture with a consistency similar to that of custard (belt phase).

5) This is the moment di add your essential oils and powder dyes if you want to customize your soap this way. Used 15-20 drops of essential oils to perfume. You can also add a teaspoon of corn or rice starch to set the scent of essential oils longer. The amount of dyes (cocoa and turmeric work great) in powder to be used is at will.

6) If you have not used dyes, recover the soap left in the pot by diluting it with water. Pour it into a bottle and you can also use it immediately as liquid detergent for the washing machine to be poured directly into the basket.

7) Pour the soap into your molds, which could be both silicone baking molds and recycled plastic containers or jars, such as yogurt jars. Cover the molds with a scarf or blanket and let the soap rest for 24-48 hours before taking it out and cutting it if necessary, always wearing gloves. The soap will be ready for use after 4-6 weeks of standing in a warm and dry place.
