- Pocket knife or hacksaw
- Hot glue
- Chopping board

1) for basis of your mat you can use waterproof fabric, such as oilcloth made from an old tablecloth, or a small light kitchen rug. Absorbent cloths, which are sometimes used to line the inside of kitchen cabinets or drawers, may also be suitable. Get the right size fabric, depending on your size dimensions that you have decided for the mat.
2) Once you have collected all the necessary materials and tools, take care of the corks. You will need to split each cap in two parts of the same thickness with the help of a small knife or a hacksaw, proceeding lengthwise.
3) The side of the caps that must adhere to the base of the mat must be perfectly smooth. You will therefore have to use the sand paper to adjust the surfaces well, in order to obtain a mat with a balanced thickness.
4) At this point you will have reached the most delicate moment. In fact, you will have to use the hot glue to glue the corks to the base of the mat. Help yourself with a square and a ruler to proceed perfectly straight. Do not apply the glue directly to the base of the mat, but to each cap.
5) After applying the glue, remove any residue unwanted before it solidifies. At this point you just have to wait the time necessary for theglue drying to be able to start using your mat, placing it in the room you prefer, to obtain an unusual decorative effect.
