Do you remember the houses in wood and straw of the EVA (Self-rebuilt Eco Village) project, the initiative we talked about some time ago and which aims at the rebirth "from below" of the Abruzzo village of Pescomaggiore, destroyed by the earthquake of April 6, 2009? Remember the wooden and straw houses of EVA project (Self-built Eco Village), the initiative we talked about some time ago and which aims at rebirth "from below" of the Abruzzo village of Pescomaggiore, destroyed by the earthquake of April 6, 2009? The idea - ecological, innovative and very low cost - was born from the collaboration between the villagers and a group of young architects and experts from green building, BAG mobile workshop, who wanted to take up the challenge of reviving a small, hard-tried village, returning it to a community at risk of dispersion.

The village of Pescomaggiore is just one of the interventions of BAG (Beyond Architecture Group) officina mobile, an association of Rome with offices also in Padua and Cisternino (BR) which made the ethical, sustainable and responsible design the cornerstone of its business. The association works within the bioarchitecture and energy saving, with particular attention to the contexts of housing emergency, with the aim of transforming a discomfort into a start point and in aopportunity, rediscovering construction and processing techniques and lifestyles based on natural values, more sober and environmentally friendly.

In addition to the design and execution of the works, BAG also operates in the field of training, spreading its own building philosophyinside educational sites. In this regard, during the summer months the association organizes numerous training courses on natural construction techniques: in June and July 2011, for example, two different types of courses are held in Puglia, dedicated, respectively, tobuilding in straw bales andnatural plaster.

As part of the first course, the "Construction site school", shows the straw construction method, deepening the construction technology and the bale processing process. Among the topics covered are the general characteristics of straw, the history and applications of this particular building technology, the examination of buildings with structure in wood and of buildings with structure in load-bearing bales. The theory is enriched byexperience on site.

In the second course, "School construction site for plastering it", it shows instead how plaster buildings in a natural way, dealing concretely with the techniques and problems of processing the different types of finish. In particular, the history of natural plasters is proposed, the characteristics of lime and earth are illustrated, and how to use plasters in natural limein raw earth and cocciopesto. Also in this case, the theoretical part is accompanied by the practice on site.
