So why aren't there many buildings made with this material in the world? Because bamboo has very specific characteristics. Due to its rounded shape it represents a unique challenge for those who choose it as a building material.
In fact, bamboo lends itself to building particular sustainable houses, different from conventional houses or prefabricated wooden houses, which use building materials with a more regular shape.
A Bali Elora Hardy with its groups and teams is working to change that, because he firmly believes in the characteristics of bamboo like natural, resistant and renewable material suitable for building houses especially in places in the world where the plant grows spontaneously.
In the expert's opinion, the typical structure of bamboo, which creates some difficulties in construction, can be exploited in a new way to create houses with a curvilinear structure, very bright and at the same time comfortable.
The bamboo revolution does not stop only at the external structures of the houses, as the designers of Ibuku have decided to create too sustainable furniture almost entirely made of bamboo with the addition of
other local materials.
Unfortunately bamboo is not without its weaknesses, as it can be degraded by parasites, humidity and atmospheric agents. It also does not allow the creation of smooth and flat panels, for example for roofs and floors. But Hardy and his team are working to overcome these weaknesses with the goal of inventing new rules for building sustainable bamboo homes.
