How much water does a simple T-shirt consume? Alberto Angela fills the Stadio dei Marmi with 3900 (glass) bottles

One shirt consumes 3900 liters of water. The equivalent in bottles was put by Alberto Angela in the Stadio dei Marmi in Rome

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

What environmental weight does a simple t-shirt have that we buy, wear and then maybe give away (if we don't throw it away) in a short time? A big weight! Consider that 3900 liters of water are needed for each t-shirt! To make everyone realize immediately what enormous use of natural resources we are talking about, Alberto Angela made a curious experiment.

When we look at a shirt, we often don't realize what's behind it. We have talked to you several times about the "weight" of disposable fashion and the human and environmental price of what we wear. (Read also: Starvation wages to produce our clothes: the LIST of brands that do not guarantee decent wages).

This time it is Alberto Angela who makes us think about how much water a simple t-shirt requires, considering not only the production but also the transport to the store and the disposal of the garment once it is used.

Even thinking that 3900 liters of water are needed should upset us but, even more, it will make us concretely visualize what it means.

To give a clearer idea, Alberto Angela he fixed 3.900 bottles (glass) of a liter along the athletics track of Stadio dei Marmi in Rome completing almost all of it! A job that lasted, as you can imagine, for many hours.

As Angela writes on the Facebook post in which she talks about her experiment:

All this for a single shirt! Multiply this number by all the shirts that are produced every day in the world. The result is impressive ...
The exploitation of natural resources by man is at the center of the debate in recent years: it is a topic that Piero and I care a lot about and that we have exceptionally decided to tackle together. There is a future to save!

If you are interested in the topic, tonight it will be in-depth on Rai Uno at 21.25 during the special of Ulysses, A wonderful planet, entirely dedicated to the health of the Earth and climate change, in which Piero Angela will also participate.
