Two students from a high school in Kütahya province in western Turkey have designed and built a kennel for stray animals that is heated using solar energy. Very economical, this shelter can be useful to the many stray animals that are faced with the cold.

Oğuz Özgür and Ahmet Ercan Kaya from Ahmet Yakupoğlu Art High School came up with the idea for this project after seeing dogs living in their backyard suffer from very difficult climatic conditions.
After receiving support from their biology teacher, the students developed these special kennels that collect solar energy and store it in a battery which then transfers it to a mat on the base of the kennel to keep the animals warm.
A project born out of nothing and with very few funds. Muzaffer Efe, the biology teacher in charge of the project, told the Anadolu Agency (AA) that the students prepared the draft of the project and collected the necessary materials, adding that the total cost of the project was around 100 Turkish lira ( 19 dollars or just under 17 euros).
Efe said he was proud of his students, adding that the most important aspect is not so much the technical value of the project as the human one.
"We try to change the way people look at stray animals because they have the right to live in this world as much as we do," he said.
It is not the reality the first time that such a project is proposed. We have already talked to you about the kennels made from recycled materials and with a photovoltaic roof made by an association of Santo Domingo for street dogs.
