His Majesty Etna is back to show off with a breathtaking eruption

Last night Etna gave the Sicilians a new spectacular eruption, made up of fountains and lava flows and accompanied by several tremors.

The highest active volcano in Europe has been in full eruptive activity for several weeks, but last night it gave the Sicilians a truly unforgettable fire show.

Starting at 19.15 pm, l'INGV recorded a new lava overflow produced since Southeast crater of Etna, which headed towards the Valle del Bove reaching a height of about 2900 meters. An hour later, the activity generated a volcanic cloud which led to the formation of an ash deposit on the eastern flanks of the volcano. The evening continued with a series of tremors, clearly felt by the citizens who live in the Etna villages and in the Catania hinterland. Fortunately, the inhabitants of the area are used to the movements and roars generated by the volcano that they call affectionately His Majesty the Mountain.

Many Sicilians looked out from their balconies and windows to admire the show offered by Etna, made up of lava flows and fountains which, mixing with the whiteness of snow and clouds, made the eruption even more suggestive. In a few hours on social media, breathtaking videos and photos bounced around the world. Someone ironed that Sicily is literally in red zone, given that since last Sunday the island is again in lockdown for two weeks, due to the increase in Covid-19 infections.
