He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

Wool sweaters are particularly delicate to treat and wash and many, in order not to risk damaging them, avoid washing them in the washing machine. Actually, washing a sweater in the washing machine without damaging it is possible, if we pay particular attention to these three factors:

Detergent

In order not to damage our wool sweaters and, at the same time, contribute to protecting the environment, we opt for an ecological detergent, which gently cleans our laundry and does not release surfactants into the waste water; to further reduce the impact on the environment and limit plastic waste, we can also opt for a solid detergent in tablets (there are also some for the washing machine). We also advise not to overdo the detergent, in the hope that our sweaters will become more fragrant: excess detergent will not be rinsed off during washing and will become entangled in the fibers of the sweater, making it less soft and - paradoxically - giving an unpleasant smell. to the laundry.

Program

All washing machines now have a specific program for wool or delicate garments: if not, do not forget to block the spin cycle before starting the wash to prevent excessive traction from deforming our sweaters. Also pay attention to the temperature: one of the main causes of wool felting is in fact a washing temperature that is too high. It is therefore better to wash our clothes cold (this will also allow us to save energy).

Drying

We resist the temptation to dry the sweaters in the heat of the radiators, if we do not want them dry and smelly: the humidity trapped in the fibers of the fabric during a forced drying will give rise to unpleasant mold, responsible for the bad smell. It is therefore better to spread the sweaters in the open air - however, away from direct sunlight, which could cause unsightly yellowing of the fibers.

We remind you, however, that wool sweaters are not cruelty free, since producing the raw material necessary for their packaging involves the suffering of the sheep. For this reason we do not recommend buying new sweaters made of wool: these tips are still valid for washing the sweaters we already have at home and to which we are fond.
