He was only 18 months old, suffocated by popcorn

Another tragedy comes on a day that was supposed to be a holiday. A 1 and a half child died of suffocation due to a popcorn Saturday night in Arcugnano, as reported by the Giornale di Vicenza.

After having dinner, the little boy was spending the evening in front of the TV with his mother, father and older brother.

After ingesting popcorn, he began to moan and have difficulty breathing. The parents tried to rescue him following the instructions of 118 but there was nothing to be done.

The doctors did not arrive in time to save him and the child died of suffocation.

The death of the little Lion, born in June 2017, is a tragedy that should not repeat itself.

For this we remember the absolute importance of knowing the pediatric unblocking maneuvers, as well as in adults.

Food should be shredded, children should be supervised while they eat, and people should know the clearing maneuvers that can save lives.

Because to separate life from death, in case of suffocation, there are only a few minutes, too few even for the arrival of the ambulance.

The 8 rules for preventing airway obstruction in a child

In the meantime, read these simple rules carefully to help prevent choking accidents:

  • Avoid letting him eat alone
  • Avoid letting him play while he eats
  • Also cut the food lengthwise
  • Make sure he doesn't put too much food in his mouth
  • Do not let him eat and drink in a moving vehicle
  • Have him eat and drink preferably while sitting with his back straight to allow food to easily reach the digestive tract
  • Remove small objects from him
  • Have him play with age-appropriate toys
