The Poppy doll of the Trolls was withdrawn from the market after the controversy arose from some parents who accused it of favoring pedophilia

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

Hasbro decided to take back Poppy's doll from major retailers, including Target, Walmart, and Amazon, after controversy broke out over the placement of a button on the toy.

"Giggle and Sing Poppy" is a doll designed to sing when you press a button on your stomach but, if you want to make you giggle, you have to push another button, located between the legs at the private parts.

Precisely this unusual position caused a real uproar that led to the birth of a petition and the choice of Hasbro to withdraw the toy from the market.

Everything started when a mother expressed her concerns about this doll in a video, given to her daughter for her birthday.

The images and words of this mom bounced across all social networks and even Utah Senator Sam Parker then shared the video as a petition was opened on Change.org, collecting about 250 signatures.

The reasons for asking for the withdrawal of the doll from the market read:

“Our society is conditioning our children to think pedophilia is okay. This Trolls World Tour doll called Poppy has a button in her private parts under her skirt. When you press this button she gasps and giggles. This is not good for a children's toy, it must be removed from our stores. What will this game make our innocent and impressionable children think? Is it funny when someone touches your private parts? Is pedophilia and child molestation okay? That's no good! It's not funny! It is harmful and has long-term effects on a child's mental / physical health! "

Several other parents have joined this "cause" by asking themselves a series of questions such as:

“Why is this button positioned exactly where it is? Why isn't it mentioned on the box? Why does it make such creepy sounds? "

The accusation made to this doll is basically that of favoring pedophilia in some way through this button that is located in the private parts and which, when pressed, makes Poppy emit giggles, cries that her mother defines "panting sounds" and adds " to me it's just like sexual sounds and it's so creepy. "

In reality, on all social networks, the video concerning the Trolls doll is reported as "partially false" information and associated with an article on the Lead Stories fact-checking site which explains that, obviously, the toy was by no means designed to encourage pedophilia.

The button on the bottom of the toy was designed to trigger alternative sounds to those produced by pushing the belly and there is no evidence that it is part of some sort of secret strategy to "initiate" the little ones to sex.

However, given the hype caused by the button, Hasbro decided to retire the doll and invited anyone who owns one to contact customer support to have it replaced with the one that doesn't have the bottom button.

As Senior Vice President of Global Communications for Hasbro, Julie Duffy explained:

“This feature was designed to react when the doll is seated, but we recognize that sensor placement can be perceived as inappropriate. This was not intentional and we are delighted to provide consumers with a replacement Poppy doll of similar value through our customer service team. ”
