Latte mother, also very precious against the tumors. If we still harbored doubts about breastfeeding, this discovery could dispel them altogether. In fact, breast milk contains a molecule, called Hamlet, proven effective against different types of cells tumors.

A discovery which dates back to a few years ago but which has returned to the limelight these days on the occasion of the International Symposium on breastfeeding which took place in Florence.

This molecule is based on a natural protein found in breast milk and it has great anticancer properties when it binds to some lipids. The latter are organic molecules such as amino acids and carbohydrates, made up of carbon and hydrogen, and help to store energy and form biological membranes.

The protein-lipid molecule complex is known as Hamlet, which stands for Human Alpha-lactabumin Made Lethal to Tumour cells. According to the study, it has been shown to be safe and effective since it can only attack cancer cells, leaving healthy human cells intact.

Through a series of experiments, the molecule proved effective against the colon cancer. Scientists have also successfully identified and isolated the specific components of the molecule called "peptide-oleate bound forms" (oleic acid with alpha-lactalbumin protein) which have precisely the ability to destroy tumors. Peptides are the short-chain amino acids commonly found in the human body.

“By studying the original protein, we have and will continue to identify the key components to make a peptide synthetic, a short-chain amino acid that has the properties of Hamlet and that is even more resistant than the original protein complex ”explained prof. Gerhard Gruber, of the School of Biological Sciences of the Nanyang Technological University.

"By synthetically building the key components, this helps the peptide to be much more resistant and to 'survive' in different environments, such as in the human body or in drinking water, an ideal means of transport to reach its target, the tumor. ".

According to scientists, this antitumor complex is capable of killing over 40 types of cancer cells in vitro. They hope that a drug based on it can be created over the next decade Hamlet for the treatment of cancer.
