An occasion so special, and rare, that it deserves to be celebrated with great participation.

Lively and colorful spirit that also distinguishes the sugar skulls typical of the Dìa de los muertos, called calaveras. Which more and more often inspire themed tattoos and make-up, but also masks to wear on the face. Compared to the classic skulls, much more gloomy and disturbing, the calaveras, with their sparkling colors, are immediately cheerful.

So get inspired by Mexican skulls to make one DIY kids mask, drawing on that inexhaustible resource that is creative recycling. A good opportunity to involve children, stimulate their creativity, teach them the importance of recycling and at the same time make them curious about other cultures. 

Mexican Skull Inspired DIY Halloween Mask with Paper Plate

Just a few flowers and a touch of color in just the right places to transform a simple paper plate into a beautiful Mexican skull. In reality you need at least two: the first remains intact, the second must be cut following the instructions of Les Moustachoux.

Then just paint the various details using brightly colored markers like Uni Posca, add the elastic cord and some tissue paper flowers on top of the skull. 


This version of the mask is even easier. Just draw the shape of the skull on the paper plate and cut it out, making two holes in correspondence of the eyes. 


Halloween mask inspired by Mexican skulls with recycled cardboard

Card stock is a very versatile material that you can use to create a lot of things. If you have some sheets aside, retrieve them to make a cute and fun Halloween mask.

Happythought tells you step by step how to make it starting from a paper pattern printed on cardboard. She cuts out the pattern by making holes in correspondence of the eyes and nose. You color it and assemble the various parts with the help of glue and tape. Finally add a few flowers, leaves and feathers of cardstock on top. 

If you want an easier project, here is a calavera mask made on white cardboard. Just draw the shape of the skull on the cardboard, cut it out with scissors, make two holes in correspondence of the eyes and decorate the skull with markers. Add an ice cream stick to support the mask and that's it. 


You can also print ready-made skulls and add the ice cream stick to the back. Also very cute are the mini pom poms applied on the edges, which you can create with the DIY.
