Gucci takes the field to defend the rainforests

By responding positively to the awareness campaign promoted by Terra! and other environmental associations supported and coordinated by RAN (Rainforest Action Network), the Gucci Group has taken a stand in defense of the rainforests of Indonesia, officially committing to reduce the amount of paper used in the packaging of its products and to use only fibers recycled or FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified.

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

By responding positively to the awareness campaign promoted by Terra! and other environmental associations supported and coordinated by RAN (Rainforest Action Network), the Gucci Group has sided in defense of the rainforests of Indonesia, officially committing to reduce the amount of paper used in the packaging of their products and to use only recycled or FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified fibers.

This means that the Gucci Group, which controls some extremely prestigious brands in the field of fashion and luxury goods, such as for example Balenciaga e Yves Saint Laurent, has decided not only to eliminate paper from the rainforests and plantations of Indonesia from its production chain, but also to no longer have commercial links with producing companies responsible for deforestation, such as the controversial group Asia Pulp and Paper, for years at the center of controversy related to the indiscriminate exploitation of numerous areas of high environmental value, not only in the Indonesian archipelago, but also in China and Cambodia.

The position statement of Gucci has both a concrete value, given the important commitments undertaken, and a symbolic one, as it could help raise awareness of public opinion and entrepreneurs on the issue of deforestation, a practice that disrupts ecosystems, endangers human lives, threatening the survival of entire indigenous communities, and which is responsible for the decimation of numerous animal species. Furthermore, the irrational and reckless exploitation of forests has a direct impact on the entire planet, placing itself among the main causes of climate changes. It is indeed important to remember that green plants help keep the concentration of carbon dioxide stable in the air we breathe, thanks to photosynthesis, and thus act as real lungs for our planet. Their disappearance has disastrous consequences: just think that, really due to deforestation, Indonesia ranks third in the ranking of greenhouse gas emitting countries, just behind the United States and China, with the8 percent of global emissions.

Gucci takes the field to defend the rainforests

The one of Gucci is an authoritative stance, which demonstrates agrowing attention to environmental issues and the problem of climate change and that inserts the famous fashion brand in the ever growing number of entrepreneurial groups that have chosen to focus on recycling and FSC certification, such as Tiffany & Co., H&M e Unisource. Hoping that other brands in the world of fashion shows and luxury goods will soon join the initiative, to show even the most skeptical that deforestation has really gone out of fashion.
