“Like the climate crisis, the coronavirus pandemic is a crisis of children's rights. It will affect all children, now and in the long run, but vulnerable groups will be most affected. I ask everyone to come forward and join me in supporting UNICEF's vital work to save children's lives, protect health and continue education, ”Greta said in a statement.

Unicef will use the donation for support children affected by school closures but also those whose rights are at risk from social and economic consequences of restrictions, imposed all over the world to stem the spread of infections.

The money raised from the campaign will then be used to provide the children with soap, masks, gloves and hygiene products.

The funds, therefore, as declared by Unicef will be used above all to deal with "food shortages, precarious health systems, violence and lost education".

The United Nations has warned that as many as 66 million children could fall into extreme poverty due to the global economic crisis caused by the coronavirus blockages. So now more than ever there is a real need to protect their rights.
