Less ads, more trees. It happens in France, in the city of Grenoble, which has decided to dismantle its advertising panels and replace them with the green of nature. Less ads, more trees. It happens in France, in the city of Grenoble, which has decided to dismantle its advertising panels and replace them with the green of nature. This was announced by the mayor of the Green Party Eric Piolle, who decided to not to renew the contract with the advertising giant JCDecaux, which owns billboards for advertisements in many urban areas across the Alps.

Grenoble is the first European city to renounce the proceeds from advertising space, which in 2014 alone earned it a good € 645.000, in favor of green spaces for residents. According to the city, explains France24, the renewal of the contract with JC Decaux would have allowed revenues of soi € 150.000 in 2015, since the advertiser is increasingly preferring digital advertising rather than fixed ones.

"It is time to move forward in making Grenoble a more welcoming and creative city," said the mayor. “We want a city that is less aggressive and less stressful to live, able to carve out its own identity. Freeing Grenoble from billboards is a step in this direction ”.

For this, between January and April 2015, 326 advertising panels will already be eliminated, as soon as the contract with JCDecaux comes to an end. Some panels will remain until 2019, particularly at bus stations, i.e. until another separate contract with JCDecaux also ends.

The best part of this bold and innovative choice? The removed billboards will be replaced by trees. Who wouldn't want to live in a city tailored to citizens and their needs?
