Green Trasformer: DIY fuel from algae

It is certainly not the first time that the topic has been addressed and, indeed, it is now increasingly known how much algae can be a useful and powerful source of energy. From these vegetables, in fact, it is possible to obtain a lot and in a not too difficult way. The added value is their ease and adaptability of growth. In any latitude they can grow easily, reproduce quickly and the resulting energy is completely non-polluting. In fact, algae use solar energy to perform photosynthesis and this allows a particular enzyme contained in them (hydrogenase) to produce hydrogen.

In fact, algae use solar energy to accomplish the photosynthesis and this allows a particular enzyme contained in them (hydrogenase) to produce hydrogen.

So why not think about exploiting algae to create ecological and cheap fuel? This is what the trio of Chinese designers must have thought of da Yi Liu, Jiang Yu-ning e Luo Jing, have devised a unique robot powered by solar panels capable of transforming immediately the algae in biofuel by storing it inside.

Green Trasnformer, and this his name, is an immersion device that could substantially change the energy development associated with algae. It is, in fact, a sort of “trap”, to be left floating on a pond or even on a swimming pool. Having done this, all that remains is to collect what has been created. A sort of chemical reaction then allows the immediate formation of fuel. In other words, the device, floating on water, collects energy through solar panels, which will generate the bio-oil necessary to power any car or ship.

AlgaeIn fact, comparing them with other raw materials - rapeseed, soybean, palm oil - in the synthesis of biofuel oils they have a cultivation / production ratio higher than all the others, also thanks to the high lipid content which reaches up to 60% of their biomass.

If 0,7-1 tons / year of pure vegetable oil is obtained from a hectare planted with sunflowers, the same space occupied by algae can produce 10 to 20 tons / year. Green Transformer does nothing but facilitate, in the simplest way possible, this operation.

La found it really has some revolutionary being non-polluting, economical and completely eco-friendly. Everyone knows this, but it should be remembered that oil is a non-renewable resource that is increasingly being depleted. We are living in an evident time of energy crisis and, instead of finding alternative solutions, we tend to mark other negative ones (nuclear laws). This invention Chinese could be a concrete answer to the problem, but as always, public opinion prefers to be distracted by something else ...
