Green roofs on buildings: the 36% deduction on the way?

The government will undertake to evaluate the opportunity to grant the tax bonus (36% deduction) also to green roofs and vertical gardens. The government will undertake to evaluate the opportunity to grant the tax bonus (36% deduction) also to green roofs and vertical gardens. An encouraging news for those who intend to transform the roof of their home into an eco-sustainable roof, capable of rewarding green roofs, the thermal and acoustic insulation of buildings and the energy saving, with the consequent reduction of pollution.

The proposal comes from Senate (as part of the examination of bill of conversion of Milleproroghe decree) thanks to the interest of the senator Salvo Fleres, of the PDL group, and - although it has not yet received government approval - it has a good chance of becoming a reality.

"Green roofs - highlights the agenda - in addition to the recovery of green surfaces, also offer economic advantages as they lead to savings in future renovation costs and savings in energy costs"; moreover, “there are numerous municipalities in Central Europe that offer incentives for green roofs, in the form of grants, financial incentives, urban plans and building regulations, in order to increase energy savings, reduce environmental pollution, improve thermal and acoustic insulation and determine a better environmental impact ".

For this reason the Senate commits the Government “to evaluate the possibility of grant against documented expenses, relating to interventions on existing buildings, parts of existing buildings, real estate units or fences, concerning roofs, covers or external walls and represented by the realization of the green roof, one deduction from gross tax equal to a percentage not less than 36% of the remaining amounts to be paid by the taxpayer, up to a maximum value of 45.000 €, to be divided into no less than ten annual installments of the same amount ".

But the proposal made two years ago by the parliamentarian Gianpiero Bocci of the Democratic Party envisaged the inclusion of one even greater deduction: a share equal to 55% of the remaining amounts to be paid by the taxpayer, Up to a maximum of 10.000 € to be divided into two annual installments of equal amount. Furthermore, the proposal provided for the creation of an “Urban forestry fund” intended for the spread of urban agriculture.

We hope at least that the deduction passes to 36% ...
