In XNUMXth meeting of the World Economic Forum, held between 27 and 31 January in Switzerland, entitled: "Improving the conditions of the world: rethinking, restructuring and reconstruction" the director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Dominique Strass Kahn proposed the creation of a specific fund - called Green Fund - to help finance in the face of the great changes necessary for more sustainable development.

"Future growth - said Dominique Strass Kahn - must essentially focus on the development of sustainable energies and technologies and not because it represents a possibility of development, but because it is now a fundamental necessity".

The main problem is that more and more countries are unable to face the new challenges posed by climate change and this is precisely why this was the main focus of the Swiss meeting. "I can't believe we don't have the solution to this huge problem" Strass Kahn always thundered and, borrowing the words kindly, we can't believe it either.

Il Green background is none other than the project to build an enormous container of resources, estimated around 100 billion dollars a year, able to give all states of the world the opportunity to face the new challenges of green economy without worrying about finding the resources to meet the necessary investments.

Obviously, we still have to study wisely how the fund will be accessed: which states will be able to use it, how to enter it and - above all - how to tax the related loans granted. The IMF, not wasting time, has already started negotiations with the major banks and ministries of finance, to be able to find a model that can be shared by all.

The most feasible hypothesis would seem to be to finance it through gods "Special Drawing Rights - SDR" (SDRs Special Drawing Rights): a unit of account whose value is derived from a basket of international currencies, with respect to which a sort of "common denominator" is calculated. The value of an SDR is, against the US $, 1 SDR = US $ 1.55419, against the euro 1 SDR = € 0,90.

As we have seen, something is moving and - borrowing the title of this fortieth meeting - rethinking, rebuilding and restructuring the world can certainly help it to change.
