In Opera, a town south of Milan, a young architecture firm is carrying out various bio-architectural redevelopment interventions aimed at an urban design oriented towards sustainability. Among the projects launched in the area with the aim of recovering two lots in two distinct districts of the Milanese municipality, Habitat 09 e Green roofs.

To explain his idea of sustainable bio-architecture, the architect Marco Manna brings back the thought of Frank Lloyd Wright.

“A house must never be on a hill, but it must be of the hill, belong to it, so that the hill and the house can live together. Each happier thanks to the other. ”Bioarchitecture, therefore, understood as the perfect balance between the natural and the anthropic elements, a good design oriented towards sustainability and mutual enrichment.

The challenge of the Manna studio was precisely that of bringing together business and sustainability, because the projects carried out at Opera were commissioned for a purely commercial purpose which, thanks to the skill and will of the architect, have become worthy examples of virtuous architecture.

Houses with essential shapes, flat roofs, light cuts and large openings are just some of the distinctive aspects of the studio's buildings. To which are added, walls covered in wood heat treated, bio-lime plasters, constructions made with high porosity bricks and insulating power, green roofs and LED-lit gardens.

Habitat 09 is a renovation project of a single-family house from the 60s, transformed into a two-level two-family building. Therefore space recovery, from one to two houses, e volume optimization to leave more breath to the green of the terraced and LED-lit garden.

The materials used are modern and sustainable combined in a particular geometric game of different volumes and shapes.

Il external wooden cladding, which in addition to being an excellent insulator gives greater naturalness to the structure as a whole, has been subjected to a heat treatment that avoids any painting.

The external area, then, has an area completely dedicated to relaxation, with swimming pool and natural materials. An excellent solution to remind us that the quality of life has a decisive weight on our perception of reality.

Green roofs it was built in one of the most central streets of Opera where access to greenery is not always achievable. Just to remedy this lack, the Manna studio has conceived houses covered by an inviting green lawn.

Designed with biocompatible materials and low energy consumption systems, the Tetti Verdi residential complex consists of two buildings that each house 2 residential units on two levels.

The living area on the ground floor is crossed by a walkway that connects the entrance and the French window at the back, creating a continuity between the outside and the inside. While the roof covering with a garden increases the sense of sustainability of the urban complex which, today more than ever, requires new natural spaces where plants can purify the air, improving the perception of city spaces.

From a small company like Opera, we are launching the idea to make architecture a distinctive mark of respect and care for the environment, a small example of urban redevelopment where houses and hills bring wealth to each other.
