We have already talked about Graviola (Annona Muricata) and its extraordinary properties, also proven by some scientific research. However, it is also important to be informed about contraindications and possible side effects which can cause this plant. In fact, we must not fall into the error of believing that what is of natural origin is safe and risk-free, because this is not the case at all.

Particularly side effects of Graviola tend to appear after prolonged treatments with this plant, taken in tablets or powder, therefore when the presence of active ingredients is consistent, there is therefore no mention of the occasional intake of the fruit or of the juice.

In the case of supplements, it is recommended to take them for a maximum period of one month, avoiding to exceed the dosage indicated on the packaging. But let's see now the contraindications and possible side effects of Graviola:

    INTERACTION WITH DRUGS

Like all plants, also the Graviola it can interfere with taking some medications, enhancing it too much or on the contrary decreasing its effectiveness or even leading to the appearance of side effects of traditional medicines. Incompatible, for example, with hypertensives as it further lowers blood pressure, with some psychotropic drugs and with coenzyme Q10 supplements. It is always good to ask your doctor for advice before using this or other natural therapies in case of already established pathologies that involve taking drugs.

    NAUSEA AND VOMIT

Prolonged use (but more often an overdose) of Graviola could lead to symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. In this case, of course, it is from stop taking it immediately.

    INTESTINAL BACTERIAL FLORA IMBALANCES

La Graviola among its characteristics also has that of being a natural antibiotic, which is why used for a long time it can interfere with the normal balance of the intestinal bacterial flora, it would therefore be good to associate the therapy with Graviola with the use of probiotics that can return the intestinal situation to normal.

    GASTRO INTESTINAL PROBLEMS

Precisely because Graviola affects, even if only in part, the intestinal bacterial flora and also has effects on the stomach is better to avoid taking it if you suffer from problems in these parts of the body which therefore will already be particularly sensitive in themselves. Therefore, taking Graviola in case of colitis, Crohn's disease, gastroesophageal reflux, etc. is not recommended, or to be evaluated together with your doctor.

    NEUROLOGICAL DYSTRUBE

This is probably the most dangerous effect that Graviola can have, but at the same time the one on which there is still more to investigate. This plant (and in particular the alkaloids present in it) would in fact be able, taken in large doses and for a long period, to create a degenerative neuronal dysfunction which leads to symptoms similar to those of Parkinson's disease. The first study to make this claim was conducted by some French researchers in Guadeloupe (island of the Antilles) who had noticed a high presence of atypical Parkinson's among the poor population who used Graviola in large quantities both as food and as natural medicine.

    PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

Like most of the plants and herbs used in phytotherapy, Graviola is absolutely too not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. This is because the effects of her in such delicate periods in the life of a woman and her child are not ascertained with scientific research on a human model. On rats, however, it has been noted that it stimulates uterine contractions ahead of time, when in doubt it is always best to avoid.
