Goodbye to the old INPS PIN. The SPID, the public digital identity system that will replace the previous system from October, will soon be enough to access the site.

According to what has been announced by the Social Security Institute, from 1 October next no new PINs will be issued as a credential for access to services. It will be possible to access through the Spid, which, however, not everyone has yet activated.

“Since its inception, INPS has also allowed access to its services through the SPID system, subsequently making it mandatory for patronates and CAFs, as an authentication method for accessing the services dedicated to them in place of the PIN. The current context of digital transformation and the new opportunities offered by technologies and mobile devices, which raise the levels of interactivity with users and encourage the participation of all actors in the practices of creation and distribution of the public service, allow the Institute to make use of the SPID digital identity system as a strategic infrastructure for the country and as a decisive impetus for the modernization of services in terms of digital inclusion and participation ", reads circular letter no. 87.

Hence the decision to proceed with the switch-off from the PIN to the SPID in order to simplify the relationship with the public administration since a user can access various services through the SPID.

What will happen from 1 October: the transitional phase has begun

For a first period we will be able to continue to use the PIN in our possession. During the so-called transitional phase, which will start on 1 October, citizens will be allowed the gradual transition to SPID credentials, but the PINs already in use will function beyond this date and can also be renewed upon their natural expiration until the end of this phase, the date of which is not yet known.

"Based on the progress of the onboarding process on SPID, the Institute, in agreement with the Ministry for Technological Innovation and Digitization, AGID and the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies, will set the definitive termination date of validity of PINs issued by INPS "reads the circular.

Only minors and non-EU subjects are an exception, as they will be able to continue to use the device PIN for the services dedicated to them since they cannot have access to SPID credentials.
