With the intention of reducing pollution caused by plastic, the Indian startup Kagzi Bottles, founded by electronics specialist Samiksha Ganeriwal, has created an innovative 100% compostable paper bottle that represents a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to bottles and disposable plastic containers used for shampoos, creams, detergents and other liquid products.

Recycled paper bottles, what are they

Kagzi comes from the Hindi word kaagaz, meaning paper, the material with which these bottles are made. To be sustainable, however, the project had to be based on a circular model, and for this reason the bottles are made with recycled paper transformed into pulp.

I was inspired by lotus leaves and banana leaves. Both have the property of being waterproof and sustainable, but they are not widely used. I wanted to know how they do to prevent the penetration of the liquid, ”Ganeriwal tells us in an interview.

Although not yet on the market, the innovative product already presents itself as an attractive alternative from both a sustainability and an economic point of view. In fact, unlike other environmentally friendly solutions, Kagzi Bottles could cost as much as single-use plastic or even less.

When we checked the shampoo bottles used by some companies in India, they cost around 26-30 Indian rupees (0,30 euros). Our bottles instead cost around 19-22 Indian rupees (0,25 euros) ”, Ganeriwal continues to explain to us.

However, thanks to the faith in our product and the trust of our investors, we now produce paper bottles on a large scale. Our bottles are resistant, compostable and are the solution to single-use plastic bottles ”, the company specifies.

According to their vision, these paper bottles will soon be a benchmark for all types of sustainable packaging, and although they cannot currently be used for food, they are already researching and developing other plastic-free options for food. .

We plan to create a research and development facility that will allow new ideas in the packaging industry to flourish and become a reality, ”he tells us.

In the last decade alone, we have produced more plastic than in all of human history. The Samiksha Ganeriwal startup has mapped out a good path to do something in this common battle to take care of the planet and stop drowning it with plastic.
