But poor Flavia couldn't count on anyone. Only elephant in the zoo, spent 43 years walking around a cage. She had been taken to the zoo at the age of three and her physical health had not been good for about six months. For some time now, the PACMA animal rights group has been fighting for the animal to be moved to a sanctuary.
According to animal rights activists, Flavia suffered from depression and this also had repercussions on her body. Despite the attempts, the zoo had not wanted to give up on Flavia and now the executives say they are sorry for her death.
Last Friday, the large pachyderm collapsed and could no longer get up from the ground, so the zoo practiced euthanasia. But what were those continuous collapses due to? We know that in nature an elephant can live up to 70 years: how much has being in the cage affected the health of the unfortunate animal?
After the umpteenth death, the PACMA asks that no other animals arrive at the zoo and for those already in captivity, not to authorize reproduction. For Flavia, alone and a prisoner, we can no longer do anything, but for many other animals we can: boycott zoos, circuses and any event that uses animals as objects and attractions.
