Glyphosate: in mustard there are traces of the dangerous pesticide, the German test

A test carried out on 20 tubes or cans of mustard found traces of glyphosate in most of the samples.

Let's go back to talking about glyphosate, an herbicide that is increasingly the focus of attention both for its possible and various harmful effects on the environment and human health, and because many analyzes have identified it in commonly used foods or drinks. . This time traces of glyphosate were found in mustard.

Mustard, along with mayonnaise and ketchup, is one of the most loved and used sauces. Unfortunately, even in this dressing, glyphosate residues can be hidden. This was discovered by a new survey conducted by Öko-Test on 20 packs of mustard (in a tube or jar).

The test aimed to understand if the mustard was contaminated with traces of harmful substances and indeed, the laboratory analyzes showed that most of the samples contained residues of glyphosate, a herbicide widely used against weeds in agriculture. conventional.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classifies glyphosate as a possible human carcinogen but other authorities such as the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), however, have not confirmed this suspicion.

The diatribe, however, is always very much alive and also fueled by some sentences in favor of people who fell ill after being exposed to glyphosate for a long time. We recall, for example, the most recent in the United States where, on appeal, glyphosate was considered by the court to be responsible for the non-Hodgkin's lymphoma appeared in a man. Returning to the mustard test, the magazine's experts point out that:

It is true that the levels we have found are only traces. But we think that to be sure, glyphosate simply shouldn't be found in foods

The advice is therefore to rely on organic, as all the organic mustard brands in the test were, as expected, free of glyphosate.

Finally, Öko-Test underlines the presence, in some brands of mustard, of another previously little known problem substance, bisphenol F. This is suspected of being an endocrine disruptor. However, as the German magazine explains, the substance comes from mustard production itself and the traces found are classified as "unproblematic" by experts.
