Genoa: very rare sighting of 3 killer whales in the Voltri sea, but perhaps this is not good news

3 killer whales have been sighted in the sea of Voltri, in Genoa, a very rare event since they usually frequent colder seas.

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

In the sea of Voltri 3 have been sighted orcas, filmed in a video that is incredible, being a rare event in the Mediterranean.

In the images you can see their fins sticking out of the water followed by the appearance of three specimens, probably including mother and son, intent on jumping a short distance from a boat. They move in "pod", that is family groups with a matriarchal hierarchy.

In fact, the killer whale usually lives in matrilineal families called “pod”, made up of a female, her young, older and sterile females and an adult male.

Il video, shot by a fisherman, was published online by the Limet association and according to what Silvia Mangraviti, a Genoese marine biologist, in Genoa24 stated, it is Orcinus orca, a non-sedentary marine mammal belonging to the delphinidae family, whose name literally means "Killer whale" due to its eating habits, as it is a large predator.

Truly a rare event for the Mediterranean considering that killer whales are generally sighted in the coldest seas even if, just a few years ago, off the coast of Vado Ligure, similar specimens had been identified, perhaps coming from the Strait of Gibraltar, where there is an almost sedentary.

As for these 3 killer whales, it is assumed that they were on a migratory route that headed from the northern seas towards the Azores archipelago and that they entered the Strait of Gibraltar, ending up in the Mediterranean.

But if on the one hand this may seem like good news, on the other, according to what was stated by the biologist Erika Esposti at Il Secolo XIX, the killer whales could have pushed as far as the Ligurian Sea also due to climate changes which cause temperature changes in the waters, disorienting mammals.
