This morning a chasm that opened in Via Donghi, in the San Fruttuoso district, has literally swallowed a truck carrying food.
And while slowly the city is raising its head, new ones accidents and new dangers seem not to make the inhabitants stay in peace, already shaken by the Ligurian capital. Fortunately the driver of the vehicle remained illeso. The firefighters intervened on the spot, and with a crane the vehicle was pulled out of the chasm. The driver was still transported to the emergency room of the San Martino Hospital, where he will be checked on his health conditions.
And it is not the first case in which a heavy vehicle plunges into the depths of the Genoese streets. Last Saturday, another large hole had opened, and it was necessary to install a temporary bridge to cross it and ensure traffic, as the city was blocked in many areas.
Precisely because of the abundance of pioggia in recent days, the asphalt has not resisted, absorbing a large amount of water with consequences like this. But today, finally, the sun shines on Genoa. A bright day, after days of darkness and rainy clouds.
And while in the North we begin to catch our breath, la fear has moved to the Center-South, where violent storms occurred between yesterday and today. Yesterday in Messina and its surroundings, especially in the Ionian area, 120 mm of rain poured. It's at Giampilieri and Scaletta Zanclea, the two hamlets of Messina tried by the flood two years ago, the sirens sounded for the weather alarm. Two flooded streams, the Divieto and the Racinazzi. In the capital there have been floods, landslides and inconveniences to road traffic. It still rains today but the intervention of the firefighters and civil protection has restored access to the municipalities of Taormina e Gaggi.
Meanwhile onElba island the damage is counted and there is talk of manslaughter and culpable disaster regarding the hypotheses of crime on which the Livorno Public Prosecutor's Office is working, after the flood of Campo nell'Elba in which an 81-year-old woman lost her life. The investigation will clarify the causes of the elderly lady's death, also investigating the circumstances which induced the civil protection to issue an alert until Sunday evening, while the rain continued on Monday as well.
