Generate energy by walking on sidewalks? In Toulouse today it is possible!

Steps transformed into energy: as had already happened in the Watt discotheque in Rotterdam or in the night club Surya in London, equipped with a dance floor capable of producing energy thanks to the movement of the dancers, now also i Toulouse sidewalks could become inexhaustible sources of clean energy.

In fact, the first pavement in the world capable of collecting the energy of the steps and use it to turn on a street lamp. Thus, while in the disco the wild dances instantly lit up the dance floor, on the streets of the French town the kinetic energy of passers-by will be forfeited by a battery which will allow the lamp to be switched on at night.

We speak in the singular because so far it is a first experiment with 8 panels placed in the center of Toulouse for two weeks: are produced by Sustainable Dance Club, the company that launched them in the nightclub Club Watt, but they have been modified to be sensitive to mere pedestrian passage. The same principle will be used for a pilot plant in the Rotterdam stadium.

Generate energy by walking on sidewalks? In Toulouse today it is possible!

Pavegen Systems, as we had seen some time ago, had already had the intuition of transforming the movement of steps into electrical energy, conceiving a floor composed of particular tiles which, if walked on, are able to produce approx 2,1 watts per hour.

The idea is nothing short of “enlightening” (it really should be said!) And if it were to bear good fruit it would really be a step forward to illuminate our cities with potentially infinite and above all clean energy.

For now we are waiting to have the first results from these experiments, after which we will all be invited to walk around to give light to our streets!
