L'garlic it is a very healthy and rich tuber in properties that we should eat more often. But how it is best to consume it and cook it to take advantage of all the benefits it can offer to our body?

Known for its pungent taste and smell and capable of flavoring various dishes, garlic is generally a loved or hated ingredient. If it is used in the kitchen as a seasoning, the way it is consumed and added to preparations is quite indifferent. However, it is different if you also intend to consume it for your health by exploiting its properties that make it a real natural drug with antibacterial, blood thinning, hypocholesterolemic and antihypertensive power.

Here's how to eat garlic and enjoy its maximum benefits while limiting discomfort:

Eat it raw

Cooked garlic loses most of its properties as high temperatures break down the most important active ingredient contained in the bulb: allicin. To fully enjoy the benefits it offers, it is therefore advisable to always consume it (or as much as possible) raw. Don't worry about the breath problem either. Finely chop it

It is not enough to eat it raw, garlic should always be finely chopped or well chewed as allicin is released more once the bulb is cut. The best thing would be to chop it, wait 10-15 minutes and only then consume it.

Cooked garlic

If raw garlic just isn't for you but you manage to eat it cooked in the various recipes, know that, to better preserve its properties, you can first cut or crush it, let it rest for 10 minutes (but there are those who say to get up to 45 minutes) so that it releases all the allicin and only then cook it. In this way the precious active ingredient should become not only more bioavailable but also a little more resistant to heat (however try to cook it as little as possible at low temperatures, avoiding fried and fried).

Consume it on an empty stomach

The ideal, for those who succeed, would be to consume raw garlic, previously chopped and taken on an empty stomach, therefore on an empty stomach. Excellent health benefits can be found by consuming garlic every morning as soon as you wake up (a natural remedy, however, suitable only for the most intrepid!).

Remove the soul

It may be useful to deprive the garlic of its soul, that is the innermost area, in case it is difficult to digest. In fact, this is the heaviest part of the tuber that can bother some people by discouraging them from using the whole food.

Fresh and organic garlic

A garlic that is too old does not guarantee the presence of the same active ingredients as a fresh garlic (have you ever thought of planting it in the garden or on the balcony?). Then always choose it of organic origin.

Just the right amount of garlic

Every day you should consume 2 medium-sized cloves of garlic. Smaller quantities are not enough to ensure the health benefits.

Infusion of ginger and garlic and garlic paste

Two original and healthy ways to consume garlic are to make an infusion using this tuber in combination with ginger or to make garlic a paste to use where you prefer. Read also: Ginger and garlic: how to prepare the infusion and pasta to use in the kitchen
