The inauguration is Friday 2 March at 18 pm, where visitors accompanied by the curator Francesca Fontana will be able to take a dip in the past among childhood memories.

The exhibition, as we said, is part of a path conceived by Thelma Gramolelli in 2014, born with the aim of investigating a crucial period in the history of the figurine characterized by the breakthrough of commercial television in the various areas of social life.

How can we forget the arrival of Japanese cartoons that have influenced entire generations also thanks to the stickers?

“The 'Meisaku' style is based on Western children's literature. In addition to instructing Japanese viewers on Western landscapes, architecture, customs and habits, it offers them a profound psychological analysis of the protagonists ”, reads the Facebook event created for the occasion.

The intention was therefore educational, because the characters to become adults had to face the most unthinkable tests. Who does not remember the unfortunate red-haired Anna or the little Flo who finds herself on a desert island from well-being to deal with the pangs of hunger? But we could give examples of many and many others.

The forerunner of the project is the cartoon of Heidi, created by Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki in 1974, then to follow Anna with red hair (1979), Tom story (1980) based on The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Flo, little Robinson (1981), Lucy-May (1982), There in the mountains with Annette (1983).


From 1986 to 1993 graphics began to undergo the first transformations, with colors becoming more vivid. We therefore have Pollyanna (1986) One for all, all for one (1987), animated transposition of the novel Piccole Donne e Peter Pan

Although they are not officially part of the series called World Masterpiece Theater, many other cartoons shared the themes taken from Western children's novels and the educational intent. Among these, some products of Nippon Animation not explicitly included in the WMT project, such as L'ape Maia (1975), Jacky, the bear of Mount Tallac (1977), D'Artacan and the three musketeers (1981), Around the world by Willy Fog (1983), The Jungle Book (1989), and Meisaku-style cartoons by other manufacturers such as Remi - His Adventures (1977), Captain Future (1978), Nils Holgersson (1980), Don Quixote ( 1980), The Wizard of Oz (1987), Robin Hood (1990). Finally, the cartoon David Gnome my friend (1985), based on an illustrated children's book, is not Japanese, but Spanish.
