Locked up in a hat as if it were normal luggage. A tragic end that of a doggie who was flying on a United Airlines route: upon arrival in New York there was nothing for him to do.

He died before landing at La Guardia airport. We are talking about a little dog of just ten months traveling from Houston to New York with its owners, but more than a pleasure trip, the whole thing turned out to be a horror movie.

According to an initial reconstruction, the dog was regularly in a carrier, but the crew members forced the owners to make the animal travel inside the hat boxes. Juan lara, who was on board tells on Facebook:

“I was aboard my first and last United Airlines flight today. The assistant asked passengers to place the carrier not under the front seat, but in the overhead bin for the duration of the entire flight. The three passengers insisted for a long time that the dog up there would not have enough air for the three hours of travel, but the staff were adamant ”.

Some passengers said they heard it cry and bark the dog, but no one actually intervened. United Airlines took responsibility and apologized to the owners by explaining in a short statement that:

“This was an accident that should never have happened as the animals should never be placed in the hat boxes. We take full responsibility for this tragedy ”.

The French bullodog died on February 12, but the news has only now been made public, the flight attendant is now under investigation. But unfortunately, this is not an isolated case, recently we told you about the passenger forced to throw his hamster down the drain because Spirit Airlines had forbidden to take him on board.

Without going into the merits of the judgment, this story cannot fail to make us reflect on how much work still needs to be done on guaranteeing always and in any case the animal welfare. We are left with the doubt about many questions: should dog owners have insisted more? Should they have refused to let the flight go? We certainly do not want to rage on people destroyed by grief for the loss of a family member.

What is certain is that the airline cannot wash its hands of it simply by stating that it was a tragic accident, especially since on the official website of United Airlines there are three pages dedicated to the transport of animals and in no case it says that a dog, a cat or any other animal must be placed in a hatbox. The legislation says it, but common sense also says it. Is it possible that a flight attendant doesn't even know the rules of the company he is employed by?

No excuse and no admission of guilt can bring the poor dog back to life, perhaps a victim of ignorance on basic rules. Unfortunately it is not the first case, always the same company a few days ago had sent a dog destined for Kansas City in Japan. Irgo, a 10-year-old German Shepherd, was supposed to fly from Oregon to Kansas, but when the owners went to pick him up, another dog was delivered.
