Foot reflexology is a type of massage that is done with the thumbs on the soles of the feet to rebalance our whole body

One of the most important parts of our body and perhaps the most neglected, especially by men, are the piedi. But it is precisely through the foot massage that many diseases throughout the body can be prevented and treated.

We are talking about foot reflexology, a particular type of massage that with the thumbs of the hands puts pressure on certain points on the soles of the feet with the aim of rebalancing the energy and well-being in our body. This is due to the fact that in feet there are many nerve endings which, if stimulated, can send inputs to the brain to make us feel better.

There is one map of reflected points, ie the points on the sole of the foot connected to some parts of our body, on which pressure can be exerted to obtain beneficial effects. Among these: l'relaxation of tensions, the reduction of stress and the rebalancing of the organism subject, too often, to so many not too useful stimuli.

Wanting to make a quick summary of the plantar map, it can be said that: the fingers correspond to the head, the calcaneus is connected to the pelvis and, in general, the two feet correspond to the two halves of the body, including internal organs.

La foot reflexology it was already known millennia ago. They used it in Egypt, so much so that a fresco depicting a massage of the hands and feet was found in the necropolis of Sakkara. But even among the North American Indians there are traces of foot massages.

In the West, however, traditional medicine has known the potential of this discipline for a few decades. It was the American William Fitzgerald who studied Chinese acupressure techniques and invented the "zonal" theory which, since it did not appeal to the academic world, which was too traditional, fell into thin air. But the doctor was more successful Joe Shelby Riley, first and Eunice D. Ingham, then, who resumed Fitzgerald's work and in 1938 published the book entitled “The stories that feet can tell“. And this was the beginning of the first school of reflexology.

Currently also from scientific research come the confirmations of its effectiveness for the treatment of different types of pain.

Obviously, to fully enjoy the benefits of this technique you must rely on the expert hands of a foot reflexology operator, but in reality it is also possible to do it alone.

According to experts, that would be enough 15 minutes a day to devote to the care of the feet to have very useful results from the point of view of psycho-physical wellbeing.

To make a self-massage you have to follow a few rules: sitting with your back straight, rest your ankle on your thigh and massage with your thumbs. While we can't pinpoint the right spots, the simple full foot massage helps improve blood circulation and muscle tone.

And if the self-massage seems too sad to you, you can make it a couple activity, a pleasant and healthy foreplay. Don't you think?
