Evidently, there are not enough caveats regarding health risks due to fast food, if the frequent consumption of junk food is considered normal by many parents as regards the nutrition of children and adolescents. The consumption of hamburgers and various unhealthy snacks would not only promote obesity, but would promote an increased risk of asthma and eczema in children and the very young.

This is what emerged from one study recently conducted by researchers from Auckland University, in New Zealand, in which 319 very young people aged between 13 and 14 and 181 children aged 6 and 7 were involved. Since school age, most of them follow unfair eating habits, turning to junk food even more than three times a week.

Experts have highlighted that the causes of the increased risk of asthma and eczema in children and adolescents are to be found in the saturated fats excessively present in fast food and junk food in general. Saturated fats have been deemed capable of decrease the defensive capacity of the immune system in children and very young people, exposing them to a greater risk of asthma and eczema.

The increased risk of asthma and eczema would affect in particular those children and very young people who find themselves consuming junk food at least three times a week. The increased risk was estimated to be 39% in adolescents and 27% in children and related to the consumption of fast food and junk food excessively high in saturated fat.

Experts have not limited themselves to indicating junk food as an element that can contribute to increasing the risk of asthma in the younger sections of the population, but have taken care to provide a decisive recommendation about it. To reduce this risk by 11% in children and 14% in very young people, it is sufficient, in their opinion, to consume at least three servings of fruit and vegetables per week. Here is one more reason for parents regarding the importance of accustoming their children to a greater consumption of fruit and vegetables from an early age.
