Confiscate the Tiger Temple tigers. In the last few hours, the Thai authorities broke into the famous Buddhist temple of Kanchanaburi which in recent years apparently had turned into a real tourist business thanks to these animals.

The action would be part of the activities put in place for tackle illegal wildlife trafficking. In fact, in recent years the Tiger Temple has been at the center of numerous accusations that saw it involved in the trafficking and mistreatment of tigers. A very different situation from when the first tiger cub that had been saved by the monks arrived in this place in the late nineties.

For years, animal rights activists have accused Thai monks of breeding tigers illegally while according to some visitors the animals seem sedated. Tiger Temple denies all charges, Reuters reports.

Since 2001, the authorities have been fighting to bring the tigers under state control. Now Tiger Temple tigers were confiscated in collaboration with the Department of National Parks of Thailand. They will be moved to a park, a state-run animal sanctuary.

Previously, the Tiger Temple had blocked all attempts at control and inspection. Only between January and February of this year the authorities were able to take away 10 tigers. A millionaire turnover now revolved around the Tiger Temple.

Already in 2015, the Thai government had tightened the law on the illegal trafficking of animals but activists accused the authorities of not intervening appropriately. Now the hope is that the tigers will be relocated to a place where they are truly protected from any abuse.
