Lyubov Panchenko, the Ukrainian artist who all his life fought for justice and freedom, defying censorship with his wonderful works of art inspired by the motifs and colors of the Ukrainian folk tradition, died

He was dying of starvation in the middle of the war Lyubov Panchenko, multifaceted Ukrainian artist of 85 years old, residing in Bucha, until a grenade hit his home on 30 April. They pulled it out of the rubble but by now it was too late.
Born on February 2, 1938 in the village of Yablunka, Ukraine, she never stopped pursuing her dreams despite her parents not approving of her passion for art. She thus managed to graduate from the Kiev School of Applied Arts and in the following years she further expanded her knowledge in the fields of art and graphics.
He worked at the Design and Engineering Technological Institute as a stylist and at the Republican House of Models. And throughout his life he was committed to preserving and protect traditional Ukrainian culture, which profoundly influenced his wonderful art. He loved the history of his people about him and had a fondness for folk art, he traveled from village to village in search of towels, shirts and local handicrafts.
Painter but also stylist and embroiderer of traditional Ukrainian costumes, as well as political activist and member of the Ukrainian Women's Union. She also won the prestigious Vasyl Stus Prize, the first non-governmental prize awarded for "talent and courage".

In the 60s, during the Khruščёv thaw, she was persecuted by the Soviet authorities for her works characterized by the typical bright colors of Ukrainian tradition, which he revived through his art, despite the censorship. An authentic hymn to freedom.
The mayor of Bucha, Anatoliy Fedoruk, also remembers her with a post published on facebook where she writes:
The entire community conveys its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the great Ukrainian woman. We will keep her works and her memory of her fortitude, diligence and love for Ukraine in a difficult time for the nation. Our community has now recognized a great loss: Bucha and all of Ukraine have lost another generous and unique talent.
And so, after Maria Prymachenko, another talented exponent of the Ukrainian art scene dies, also annihilated by an absurd war.
